The End of Time Part One – Reaction
Dec 30th, 2009 by Dr. Geek
Hello faithful reader, as most of the world has seen The End of Time Part One, I figured it was safe to give you my reaction to the episode.
After seeing the various trailers with the Ood and the dream like cinematography, I thought this episode was going to be a cross between
Its a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol. I thought The Doctor was being brought to account for his transgressions in the previous episode, and that in the dream Wilfred would guide The Doctor through a nightmare of images.
Well that was all wrong. Join me beyond the spoiler barrier to find out what I thought of what really happened.
Okay so the whole point of the Ood was to warn The Doctor that The Master is coming back. No big surprise there, if The Master’s ring did not scream horcrux I do not know what would. What I did like was the fact that Lucy Saxson was prepared for The Master’s return.
This episode was better than the last one because I had not figured it out, and it had many quotable moments. The best I believe were between The Doctor and Wilfred where we learn that even though regeneration permits the Timelord to live on, it still feels like death to the outgoing persona.
I cannot wait to see how The Timelords are coming back, and who is the unnamed woman following Wilfred? I really hope she is not The Doctor’s mum. I love my friend’s idea that she is The White Guardian. Now that would be cool.
What did you think of the episode?
Ah, but it wasn’t only the Master that was coming back – it was Gallifrey!
I’m glad I wasn’t the only person who thought that the woman in white might be the White Guardian (wearing dead birds on your head is so 1980s!).
I enjoyed it.
Looking forward to Matt Smith.
Glad you liked it. The updated writer’s tale is out and RTD says he likes the fact that he left the identity of the woman in White a bit vague. People get to make up their own mind. For the record according to this new book, RTD always thought of the woman as The Doctor’s mum.
Oh well, I am going to just disregard that and be happy he left it vague. I think the woman is a actually Donna. She is part Timelord and has a connection to Wilf. How she gets caught in the Time War, well time is relative ….
We will have a reaction post to End of Time Part 2 soon. Just waiting for a few more people to have seen it.
It wasn’t quite safe… we only got it in Australia on Sunday 14th, and have to wait another week for part two. I’m struggling to avoid stuff like this.
