A Day With John Barrowman

Posted by: Whochick

John Barrowman has his own YouTube channel. (It’s official and everything.) One of the things he has posted there is a five part series where a camera followed him around for the day while he was promoting one of his albums (the one from 2007). He has embedding disabled, but I’ve included the links to all five parts. Expect the John Barrowman that you’ve come to know, as he doesn’t act any differently in these videos than he has in other interviews that I’ve seen. Enjoy!

In this episode, Scott and Sacha discuss Torchwood: Miracle Day. Yes, the whole thing. This makes for a podcast that’s a wee bit longer than usual.

…I’m sure Jack is glad of the attention.

…apparently. Scott (and his wife Debbie) are still at Comic-Con. They’ve even survived the second day! You can hear about it, direct from them, here.

Are you at Comic-Con? Have you played Spot the Scott? Be sure to comment and let me know. :)

Doctor Who and Torchwood in the News

Posted by: Dr. Geek

With all the excitement of the mid season cliffhanger, some news has not gotten the focus that it should. First, it has been announced that Matt Smith will be The Doctor through next series. He will be The Doctor through Series 7 in 2012!

Second, Eliza Dushku will star in a Torchwood spinoff series, Torchwood Web of Lies. The web series will be made up of 10 episodes, each three minutes long, with the first installment launching before Miracle Day premieres and the others going online after each subsequent episode airs.

Day…??? 28?: Random Links and Such

Posted by: Whochick

Stand by for a Linkapalooza:

  • Are you familiar with Teefury? They offer a t-shirt design for one day only, and have a new design each day. Often they are fandom-related, as is the case currently. You might wish to pop by and take a look periodically.
  • Mars has been experiencing some erosion. Doctor? Don’t you think it’s best to leave Mars alone at this point?
  • Do you remember those casting rumors that had David Tennant playing a part in The Hobbit? Well, while I think it’s currently unlikely as he’s doing a play with Catherine Tate…the IMDB still has the rumor listed. So…who knows?
  • Everything you need to know about Doctor Who on a single page, you can see here.
  • Blastr brings us a TARDIS infographic here. (I wish I could draw…)
  • And, finally, just in case you’re as behind on Torchwood news as I am, check out some set photos here and here.

Torchwood Miracle Day

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Today I thought I would deviate from the strictly Doctor Who related articles to give a brief mention to Torchwood. Having followed Torchwood since its origins in New Who’s second series, I am looking forward to the new series and I bet you are too.

As most of you know, after the success of Torchwood: Children of Earth, it was decided that there would be a 4th series of Torchwood, but this time it would be produced in part by the Starz network in the United States. Originally, this new series was subtitled The New World. From the initial chatter it appeared that Torchwood would be getting a bit of a fresh start. Not exactly a reboot, but with the Starz network’s involvement and the American cast members, it appeared as if Torchwood was being primed to relaunch. Well, that may or may not be true. I have not heard what the Starz network’s commitment is, whether they planed for a series 5 or 6, but RTD has recently addressed some aspects of the new series which suggest the goal of the new series is possibly a bit more low key.

RTD has recently said that due to the success of Children of Earth, Torchwood would never again return to the “monster of the week” format. So far so good right?, who does not love a tightly written story arc? The problem as I see it, is the new series was renamed Miracle Day. Unlike The New World, which suggests the rebirth of the series in a more international stage, This change, to me, narrows the scope of the new series to just the specific story of the new 10 episode mini series. Its less like Star Trek : The Next Generation and more like the titles for the TNG movies, i.e. Star Trek: Nemesis. Rather than getting a relaunch with the hope of a multi-series commitment, we have instead been given one more chance for the show to prove itself.

What do you think? Am I reading too much into the title change?

If you want some spoilers for the new series, read this article where RTD addresses the premise of the series.

Tab Dump: News and Notes

Posted by: Whochick

Okay, some of this news is very new…and some of it has been kicking around in tabs on my browser for a while now, but hasn’t been mentioned here yet. (At least, as far as I’ve noticed.) So, go ahead and get yourself settled with a nice cup of tea. This may take a while to get through.

Ready?

Yet another info dump…

Yet another info dump…

(I found no fezes in this house…they were, however, in a shop down the way.)

Are you sitting comfortably?

No?

That’s okay…we can wait. (And bring a blanket, it’s chilly.)

Right-o, this is the random stuff that I have open on my desktop (and trying not to duplicate what Dr. Geek has posted…)

A Fair Few Links

Posted by: Whochick

It’s happened again. But first…a bit of fun at this years’ Proms.

Doctor Who: Trouble at the Albert
Proms 2010

Now, I have a whole bunch of tabs open that I’ve been storing up to post here. So, let’s get started, shall we?

  • Remember how Neil Gaiman is writing an episode of Doctor Who Season 6? Well, Matt Smith has read it…and he says, “Oh, lord!” Um…is it season 6 yet? If you would like to see a bit of the script that hasn’t made it to the final draft, look here.
  • I’m sort of sad that I didn’t have a Doctor Who-themed wedding like these folks did. (If you’re curious, my wedding had a bit of LOTR to it, with a dash of Babylon 5.)
  • So…ever hear about the infamous naked pictures Katy Manning (Third Doctor Companion Jo Grant) took with a Dalek? (If you ask here about them she says, “It was the 70s, darling.”) Well…it’s NSFW, but you can see one here.
  • It seems that Starz has released a bit more information about Torchwood: The New World. Check it out here. I’ll admit to being curious…
  • Go Daleks! They’ve been voted the greatest Sci-fi monsters of all time. (Have any of the other monsters gone missing recently? Perhaps they’ve been exterminated.)
  • Look for the Doctor Who-related dates on this Sci-fi timeline. Or…just browse the thing and look for your most obscure fandom.
