The Pocket Project: Aliens of London

Posted by: Whochick

The Pocket Project

This week on The Pocket Project we are looking at episode four of Doctor Who series one – Aliens of London. What will The Doctor produce from his seemingly endless pockets this time? What will he use the Sonic Screwdriver for? Let’s find out.

The Pocket Project: Aliens of London – 1.4

1. TARDIS Key for Rose – Given to her as a promise that he won’t just go off and leave her behind. Later we discover that it glows when the TARDIS materializes.

2. The Doctor’s TARDIS Key – Used…to get in to the TARDIS.

3. Sonic Screwdriver – Used to: unlock a door (please note that shushing it doesn’t make it work more quietly) and work on the TARDIS.

The Pocket Project

This week on The Pocket Project we are looking at episode three of Doctor Who series one – The Unquiet Dead. What will The Doctor produce from his seemingly endless pockets this time? What will he use the Sonic Screwdriver for? Let’s find out.

The Pocket Project: The Unquiet Dead – 1.3

1. The Sonic Screwdriver – Used to: work on the TARDIS…and that’s all.

2. Coins – And amazingly, they seem to be the correct kind to buy a newspaper in 1869 Cardiff.

3. TARDIS Key – To get back into his…shed.

Total Items: 3

Wow. He only used the Sonic Screwdriver once in this episode! And that was on the TARDIS before they left it to go on their adventure. I’ll bet that this is the least he’s ever used it.

A Bit of Fun: Bad Wolf References

Posted by: Whochick

In my surfing around the internet, I have once again encountered something of interest. Remember the Bad Wolf story arc from Series one? (The one that has occasionally appeared elsewhere after that?) Well, here is a video that covers most of the references. If you want more information about this far reaching story arc, check out the Wikipedia Article. Apparently “Bad Wolf” was added to the re-done Second Doctor Story “The Invasion.”

Actually, the one that most interests me is the poster on the wall of the vehicle from Gridlock. After the end of the last series, I suppose that we know why it was there. In any case, please enjoy this visit to the department of Backstory.

FanFicRec: Out of Joint by “HonorH”

FanFicRec: Out of Joint by “HonorH”

Story: Out of Joint
Author: HonorH
Rating: PG-13? They talk about sex…
Word Count: 44603
Author’s Summary: Crossover with Joss Whedon’s Firefly. A mysterious incident in the Time Vortex forces the TARDIS to set down on Serenity. Mal finds a few headaches, the Doctor finds a mystery, and River finds someone who speaks her language.
Characters/Pairings: 9, Rose, Jack, and the Crew of Serenity during the series. (So, all sorts of implied pairings.)
Warnings: None

Recced because: This is the best written Firefly/Doctor Who crossover out there. (Yes, the best in the ‘Verse.) HonorH’s River is just perfect, and the interactions between River and Nine are pure gold. The characterizations are excellent. Really, I could just sit here and heap praise on this fic all day. But wouldn’t you rather pop over and see for yourself? Just think what could happen with our happy trio on the same ship with Mal and Co. And yes, the dinosaurs make an appearance.

From the Script: The Doctor Dances

Posted by: Whochick

unknown

Recently, I was re-reading the script for The Doctor Dances by Steven Moffat (in my copy of The Shooting Scripts), and I came across a bit of stage direction that I thought might amuse you. So…here you go:

23 INT. STOREROOM night

- and from the radio comes ‘Moonlight Serenade’. ROSE smiles, THE DOCTOR looks at her curiously.

ROSE (shrugs, a little embarrassed)
Our song.

The Doctor’s face. The tiniest blink, the tiniest flicker; you’d have to be fast to spot it. If you did, you’d think maybe the Doctor doesn’t like this…”

There you go. Now, if only they would come out with the Shooting Scripts for series 2. Sigh. Doesn’t look like there will be much chance of that right now.

The Ninth Doctor and Music

Posted by: Whochick

I have been playing with playlists quite a bit lately. So I thought it might be fun to make one containing the “Incidental Music” from series one of the new series of Doctor Who. Enjoy!

FanMusicVideo – Say When: The Fray by analeian

Posted by: Whochick

I am a huge fan of Fan-made Music Videos, and I have been since before YouTube existed. (Hard to believe that there was a time before YouTube these days, isn’t it?) So, I love to share the good ones with folks. What better way to do that with fabulous Doctor Who videos than right here?

This video is a bit on the Doctor/Rose shippy side for those of you that care. It has a good song that isn’t too slow, and the clips used are well chosen. Smooth execution. I quite enjoyed it, as you might have gathered. (By the way, if you have a video to rec, please link it in the comments. I always like to encounter new videos.)

Book Review: The Clockwise Man

Posted by: Whochick

Book: The Clockwise Man

Doctor Who: The Clockwise Man by Justin Richards is the first of the new hardback Doctor Who tie-in novels, and I loved it. It was just like reading an episode. I could almost review it like one, come to think of it. The featured characters are the ninth Doctor and Rose, and the action takes place in 1920s London. (The Doctor and Rose are in town to see the British Empire Exhibition.) There are twists and turns, scary aliens, unexpected friends and foes, a few obvious subplots, and even a “bad wolf” reference. As usual, Rose has to wear period clothing, while the Doctor only goes as far as changing his shirt. This adventure seems to take place early on during the first series. Certainly, it’s pre-Captain Jack. There are many references to time and chess, and they seem to weave their way through the story. The characters aren’t the most well developed I have ever encountered, but the pace of the story more than makes up for this. The action drags you along in its wake and, if you are not careful, you will find yourself reading way past your bedtime. Just as with any good episode, I want to go read it again now.

Script Excerpt: Rose

Posted by: Whochick

unknown

Now that we are headed into the year with only Doctor Who specials, I thought that it might be fun to post some interesting stage directions from the beginning of the new show. Gotta love those extra character insights. So, I’m starting today with a bit from the beginning of “Rose.” Enjoy!

From Doctor Who: The Shooting Scripts, Episode 1.1 – Rose (by Russell T. Davies):

2. INT Rose’s Bedroom Day 1 0730

CU a black, square alarm clock. A hand slams it off. ROSE TYLER sits up in bed, gathers herself for a second. She’s 19, her bedroom’s a mess, she’s got another bloody day at work, and she’s so much better than this. Ho hum. Deep breath, and Rose throws the quilt off.”
