Past Doctors in the 50th Anniversary

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Over the past few weeks, there have been more news about the upcoming series of Doctor Who. So far the only thing we know for sure is that the new series will have at least 14 episodes. This is counting the next Christmas special. So really all we know is the new series will have about as many episodes as all the other normal series. However, recently former 7th Doctor and Ace actors were interviewed and they mentioned how they would like to come back to the show for the anniversary.

As you can see, there is the suggestion that past actors could come back, not as The Doctor, but as other characters, like a villain. I can see the appeal of doing this, as many of the actors do not exactly look like they use to. However, for the most part this is really on a problem for Tom and Colin Baker, the 4th and 6th Doctors. The current show has already presented the 5th Doctor, and with a little makeup, McCoy would look like he did in the TV movie. We do not know when The 8th Doctor regenerated so really there is no big problem for McGann.

Personally I think it would be great for the 7th Doctor to show up in something other than a video image.

Article 30: Vampires From The Theoretical Future

Article 30: Vampires From The Theoretical Future
Flash Player v9+ and JavaScript is required to play this audio!

In this episode, Scott and Calliope discuss The Curse of Fenric, its connections to New Who, and say “Revelation of the Daleks” when they mean “Remembrance of the Daleks.” They do that last one a few times, actually. All those darn “R” Dalek epsiodes are hard to keep straight. Apologies.

Here’s a good question: How many different types of “Vampires” have we encountered over the years in this show?

Death And Costumes

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Let the speculation begin!

As this article states, Steven Moffat has said one of the series four major leads will die this season. But what is that you say, “But Doctor Geek, death in sci-fi is not the handicap it use to be, after all Rory died twice last year and went on to do really well.” I agree. One way this could go down, is let’s say, The Doctor is affected by something that will eventually kill him and the rest of the series is spent fighting the clock. This kinda makes sense given the few lines in the trailers, where The Doctor must trust the others without question and he acknowledges his life is in Amy’s hands. Or they could be dealing with a real death, one where the great reset button will not be pushed.

I doubt it would be The Doctor. Matt Smith is doing so well, and given the heck everyone goes through when casting the role, I doubt The BBC wants to go through that anytime soon. We have all seen River’s death, but as this series states often enough, time can be rewritten. It would be tragic if The Doctor looses her before their history is to really take off. It might be Rory or Amy but somehow I doubt it. If Amy lost Rory and remembered it this time, I think she would end her travels with The Doctor. To kill Rory would mean loosing both companions and I do not think that will happen yet.

What do you think?

Also, I just came across this wonderful new product line form Forbidden Planet. Doctor Who T-shirt Costumes. Take a look. They have a version for 4th Doctor to 7th Doctor. This would have been perfect for those long hot days at the convention but you still wanted to dress up. Neat no?

News of Who?

Posted by: Dr. Geek

This week has been kinda slow for Who news. Here are the stories that I found so far.

Wii will release a Doctor Who game complete with sonic screwdriver controller. Check out this article that has some pictures. So far it looks like the game will hit stores in December but only in the UK. Now I hear what you are all saying, “this is cool, but are Wii games region coded?” The short answer is yes. Check out this post which explains why.

Next up, check out this fan art. All 11 Dcotors drawn as if he were to appear on The Simpsons.

Finally, confirmation of a long standing rumor. Sylvester McCoy has told fans he has been cast as Radagast the Brown in the Hobbit.

The Doctor Who Meme – Day 01

Day 01
Your Favorite Quote

So…I ran across this meme over on Livejournal, but I thought that it would be more fun over here. No…I’m not doing 30 days in a row. Merely 30 days in order…when I feel like it. Are you sitting comfortably?

No?

How about now? Good. Let’s get started.

My Favorite quote in ALL of Doctor Who-dom?

Good Gad.

Who may be a Wizard?

Posted by: Dr. Geek

All right so the Doctor Who news is a bit thin again till we get to this year’s Christmas special, but I did find one item that was worthy of mentioning.
According to this article Sylvester McCoy is up for a part in The Hobbit.

Now I can hear you saying “But Dr. Geek, that movie will never be made” and you may be right, but assuming MGM and the other parties figure out their issues, there might be some truth to this rumor. I believe at one point Mr. McCoy was up for the part of Bilbo back during the LOTR movies so it is not impossible that they might offer him the minor part of the Brown Wizard in The Hobbit films.

I wonder how much of the 7th Doctor would be recognizable in the performance. After all The Doctor turned out to be Merlin :)

Images from WonderCon

Posted by: Whochick

So, while I was at WonderCon this weekend, I did a spot of people watching. Where was I sitting to do my people watching?

unknown

Area 51 of course! (I couldn’t believe it when I saw the number on that door.)

Now, I tend to be really shy. I’m not the one that goes about asking folks for photos…but as with other things, Doctor Who seems to be the exception.

unknown

I actually asked the folks above if I could photograph them. …And they very kindly said yes. Love the Dalek and the TARDIS. Jack even has a banana.

Oh to be a kid in the UK

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Okay I have to admit it, as a Fan of Doctor Who, I always wanted my own TARDIS for my backyard.
As an uber geek thoguh, I would want to find some way to have my own console room.

I may be the only one to say so, but so far I think the 7th/8th Doctor’s console room was the coolest. At least it looked like something one would actually live in.
Before the spam starts, see that I said I liked the console room, do not get me started on the Eye of Harmony issue.

Anyway, where am I going with this? Well as most people know, the 11th Doctor will have a new console room. We have no idea what it will look like, or if it will even be that much diferent from the current version, but we do know some lucky kid will get to design a console that will show up in series 5.

See this story

Too bad Blue Peter does not have a USA edition.
