The second Doctor Who story ever was also the TARDIS crew’s first encounter with The Daleks…and the name of said story was…The Daleks. That works out pretty well, yeah? So, join us for a discussion of this, the beginning of the Doctor’s long battle with The Evil Pepper-Pots.

Many thanks to Terry Nation for giving us this perennial baddie. Sir, we salute you!

Here, at long last is our review of The Three Doctors. We apologize for the delay. Feel free to blame life getting extremely busy…and Misha Collins.

In any case, join us for a discussion of this, the first multi-Doctor story, from back in the era when it was possible to call the Time Lords for backup. This breaks the first law of time, eh? Oh well. We’ll worry about it later.

In this episode, Scott and Calliope discuss An Unearthly Child, and ponder the changes in Who fandom from when they first joined it to now. They also talk about the Pilot episode, and the differences between it and the aired version. Can you believe it’s been 48 years since the show started?

This episode was recorded last week, so please consider it our celebration of the 48th Anniversary of Doctor Who. *throws confetti*

BBC Archives – Doctor Who

BBC Archives – Doctor Who

So…have you ever wondered about the origins of our beloved show? Well, you can read all about it. The BBC Archives have released documents from the conceptual beginning of the show. Did you know that The Doctor’s granddaughter Susan was originally a human girl named Biddy? The BBC Science Fiction Report at the time noted that “Inherently, SF ideas are short-winded. The interest invariably lies in the activating idea and not in character drama.” …I expect that they’ve learned differently by now. The Follow Up Report was adamant that they not end up with “Bug-Eyed Monsters” and that the central characters should never be tin-robots.

Check it out for yourself. You’re sure to find something that amuses you. They even offer some photographs to browse through.

The Original Doctor Who Pilot: Some Discussion

The Original Doctor Who Pilot: Some Discussion
The Pilot Episode

Before the aired version of An Unearthly Child there was another pilot filmed. This one had a few differences. I remember reading the reason why they they made some changes and re-filmed the pilot episode, but I don’t actually remember that reason. Anyway, I will be reviewing this episode rather like the others, but I will note differences as I see them.

An Unearthly Child Part 4 (The Firemaker)
The First Doctor: Story 1.4

And now, my review of Part four of the Classic Doctor Who serial An Unearthly Child, which is known as The Firemaker. I will be reviewing each episode, rather than each story, as some of the classic stories are really long. This is the last of four parts of this first episode, so next week I will review (or rather, discuss) the pilot episode. Luckily, it is available on my DVD. I will try and note any differences.
