The Lady and The Robot

I actually have an action figure of this Clockwork Robot on my desk at work, so obviously I needed a photo of him and Madame.

Offical Replica of The Doctor’s New Coat

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Okay, just when you thought you had your 11th Doctor’s costume all set, they went and changed his coat for series 6. Fear not though, because AbbyShot Clothiers, has been given the official BBC license to replicate the current coat.

Please note that this coat comes with the leather elbow patches and as most of us know those patches have come and gone and come back again this series. Maybe they will offer a special version where the elbow patches are attached via Velcro? :)

Death And Costumes

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Let the speculation begin!

As this article states, Steven Moffat has said one of the series four major leads will die this season. But what is that you say, “But Doctor Geek, death in sci-fi is not the handicap it use to be, after all Rory died twice last year and went on to do really well.” I agree. One way this could go down, is let’s say, The Doctor is affected by something that will eventually kill him and the rest of the series is spent fighting the clock. This kinda makes sense given the few lines in the trailers, where The Doctor must trust the others without question and he acknowledges his life is in Amy’s hands. Or they could be dealing with a real death, one where the great reset button will not be pushed.

I doubt it would be The Doctor. Matt Smith is doing so well, and given the heck everyone goes through when casting the role, I doubt The BBC wants to go through that anytime soon. We have all seen River’s death, but as this series states often enough, time can be rewritten. It would be tragic if The Doctor looses her before their history is to really take off. It might be Rory or Amy but somehow I doubt it. If Amy lost Rory and remembered it this time, I think she would end her travels with The Doctor. To kill Rory would mean loosing both companions and I do not think that will happen yet.

What do you think?

Also, I just came across this wonderful new product line form Forbidden Planet. Doctor Who T-shirt Costumes. Take a look. They have a version for 4th Doctor to 7th Doctor. This would have been perfect for those long hot days at the convention but you still wanted to dress up. Neat no?

Mega Con 2011

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Last weekend my wife and I attended Mega Con 2011 in Orlando Florida. This was sort of a spur of the moment thing. Neither of us was familiar with this convention and did not know exactly what to expect. While no means as large as Comic-Con or Dragoncon, there was a sizable turnout for Mega Con. We were both impressed with the Orlando convention center. Now that building is MEGA. There were three different conventions, Mega Con, Disney awards \ executives, Mary Kay (one on each floor) going on at the same time, and you would never have known it. While that may be impressive by itself, what I could not believe is the fact that the three large conventions where all using just the West side of the building. With all the activity, you got the sense that you were in for an exciting experience.

Mega Con is more like Comic-con, with its list of media guests than the more fan run BayCon in California, but unlike other conventions I have attended in the past, Mega Con had a strong Anime focus as demonstrated by the large number of people dressed as Anime characters. In fact, while I can report seeing people dressed as The 2nd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 10th and 11th Doctors, there were more people dressed as characters from Disney’s Tangled, and I never saw anyone representing Stargate. Surely this is the first sign that I am getting old. My enjoyment of “Lobby Con” was actually affected by the fact that for a while there I sat there unable to recognize what the people was suppose to be. That said, the care and detail put into those hall costumes was as good as any other con I have attended.

The media guests were enjoyable as always, given scheduling restraints, we were not able to see everyone but that is not something new. The highlights were William Shatner, and John Schneider. Both men could command the room and had very entertaining stories to tell. I knew Trek fans were dedicated but you have seen nothing till you run into a dedicated John Schneider fan. I am almost positive this one lady had her signed copy of Teen Beat in her purse since 1979. :)

Overall the con was a lot of fun, and I think we will return next year if schedules permit.

Of Fezes and News…

Posted by: Whochick

unknown

The picture above is courtesy of my Evil Twin. Doesn’t he look good in a fez? Fezes are cool!

…And now I will attempt to clear out some of the tabs I have open in my browser:

  • For those of you who haven’t heard: RTD won a Hugo! “Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form: Doctor Who: “The Waters of Mars” Written by Russell T Davies & Phil Ford; Directed by Graeme Harper (BBC Wales)” (find the other winners here.) I’m thinking it’s his turn. What about you all?
  • Check out this TARDIS made of LEGOs. Reportedly, it lights up and everything. Well…not everything. It does not yet travel in time…nor does it seems to be larger on the inside. Give the guy time. I’m sure he’ll figure it out.
  • Want to know more about Torchwood’s new season? Check out this article. Apparently, “…the more you learn about Torchwood, the less you know.” Interesting.
  • Have you ever pondered what you’d have in your dream TARDIS? These folks have. I’d just take one like The Doctor’s. I’ll be in the wardrobe room if anyone needs me.

Images from WonderCon

Posted by: Whochick

So, while I was at WonderCon this weekend, I did a spot of people watching. Where was I sitting to do my people watching?

unknown

Area 51 of course! (I couldn’t believe it when I saw the number on that door.)

Now, I tend to be really shy. I’m not the one that goes about asking folks for photos…but as with other things, Doctor Who seems to be the exception.

unknown

I actually asked the folks above if I could photograph them. …And they very kindly said yes. Love the Dalek and the TARDIS. Jack even has a banana.
