P.S. Brian (Pond) Williams

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Here is a specail treat for everyone. There was a scene written for The Angels Take Manhattan that would have given Brian some closure.
Through the aid of animation, the BBC has given us an idea of what this scene would have been.

P.S.

I don’t know about you, but I would have loved for this to have been included. Hopefully this version will show up as a DVD extra when the boxset is released

Doctor Who and Torchwood in the News

Posted by: Dr. Geek

With all the excitement of the mid season cliffhanger, some news has not gotten the focus that it should. First, it has been announced that Matt Smith will be The Doctor through next series. He will be The Doctor through Series 7 in 2012!

Second, Eliza Dushku will star in a Torchwood spinoff series, Torchwood Web of Lies. The web series will be made up of 10 episodes, each three minutes long, with the first installment launching before Miracle Day premieres and the others going online after each subsequent episode airs.

News of Who?

Posted by: Dr. Geek

This week has been kinda slow for Who news. Here are the stories that I found so far.

Wii will release a Doctor Who game complete with sonic screwdriver controller. Check out this article that has some pictures. So far it looks like the game will hit stores in December but only in the UK. Now I hear what you are all saying, “this is cool, but are Wii games region coded?” The short answer is yes. Check out this post which explains why.

Next up, check out this fan art. All 11 Dcotors drawn as if he were to appear on The Simpsons.

Finally, confirmation of a long standing rumor. Sylvester McCoy has told fans he has been cast as Radagast the Brown in the Hobbit.

Dreamland

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Did anyone watch the Doctor Who animated adventure Dreamland?
I will avoid spoilers here, but I have to say, with a bit more fleshing out, this would have made a fun episode for the live action show.

Without starting the whole “what is cannon” discussion, I think it is cool that the 10th Doctor had a series of adventures on his own, it makes it easier to think episodes like Dreamland are cannon. I have to think that at some point the BBC will allow Big Finish to do New Who audiobooks, and when that happens it will be so much easier for them to slot in the 9th or 10th Doctor’s stories. That is ofcourse if either actor wants to participate in Big Finish stories. I am guessing the answer we be yes, as long as enough time has passed.

So anyway, sure Dreamland cannot compare to a Pixar film, but it was nice to have something new going on. I really hope these gap years only happen every five years or so.

So what did you think of the episode?

Not Quite Dead

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Actually, it looks like the 10th Doctor has a few more adventures to go before his regeneration.

According to this BBC article The Doctor will apear one more time in animation.

I think projects like this are fun. The animation for the 2nd Doctor episode Invasion proved this medium could solve the problem of lost episodes, and last year’s Infinite Quest was fun.

As you can see The Doctor gets two new companions for this story. I wonder where they fit in his personal timeline? Between season 2 and 3 or perhaps after Planet of the Dead but before Water’s of Mars?
