Nicholas Courtney

Today is a sad day for Doctor Who fans, Nicholas Courtney, the man who brought to life, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, or as he was known in later life, Sir Alistair, has passed away. Unlike most military men and women in Doctor Who, the Brigadier was not a one dimensional thick headed man with a gun. He was as much of a companion as anyone before or since. Sure he only got one or two short trips in The TARDIS, but given The 3rd Doctor’s term on Earth, the lack of adventures in time and space is understandable.

As a tribute, I bring you a fan video that shows how UNIT would have been portrayed if it were actually filmed in the ’80s.

Nicholas Courtney (born William Nicholas Stone Courtney) played first Colonel and then Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, beginning in "The Web of Fear" and finally in "Battlefield." He reprised the role for the fan video Downtime (later adapted into one of the Virgin Missing Adventures), for the spin-off program The Sarah Jane Adventures, and for several audio dramas for the BBC and Big Finish Productions.–TARDIS Index File, the Doctor Who Wiki
