I despised this episode. To the plotholes Scott pointed out, let me add these. What kind of trading system leads to the destruction of the means of exchange? Why was The Doctor ignorant of themost important aspect of the millenial ritual? Why were all of the enemies so static? And above all, what kind of resolution is it when the infinite potential of a LEAF is more important than the lives of sentient beings? Too many things happened just because and there was a lot of schmaltz and handwaving to distract from a poorly paced, boring, nonsensical episode where too much was told and not enough shown.

I know how you feel. It is possible that Moffatt has bitten off more than he can chew, with Sherlock and Doctor Who at the same time. The impossible companion story line could devolve into a rehash of the Rory and River stories but at least JLC seems like a good actress so I am willing to see what she does with it.

If nothing else, this was a mutch better Christmas special than last year.

You guys are being overly generous. Mr. TARDIS had an excellent review and I won't step on his toes, but I would like to contribute one idea. Stephen Moffat was a good writer who doesn't write good anymore. The Doctor should have offered the TARDIS key to Clara, henceforth called RorySong because she just replaces and combines two Moffat creations, after deducing that she was Oswin. Since he had already witnessed and felt the pain of her death, she could be his companion without it feeling forced and The Doctor not being burdened by melancholy. All Moffat had to do was nothing, but instead he undermines his own plot and characterization to add another mystery to a show overloaded with unresolved plot points.

Uh. No. Modern Who is like an incomplete Rorschach painting. The holes in the plot and the Easter eggs are deliberate, planted to mask bad writing to make inexplicable or unexplained events seem like there is an overarching meta-structure. To borrow from another genre, they are the "hole in things." The siren song in Curse of the Black Spot is used previously in Turn Left. Is that a music cue, or a budget restraint? The vampire reference was a throwaway line acknowledging the obvious borrowing from I am Legend. Having left so many questions unanswered and having had so many intriguing possibilities squandered, I will no longer ascribe significance to any detail unless explicitly given. There are kernels for many excellent stories, but more likely by Big Finish then Moffat abd his crew. Entertaining podcast, though. Very clever, just too clever by half.

Hi there.
Thanks for a great site. I'm watching season 5 and 6 before Season 7 airs here in South Africa.
This is probably mentioned in one of your later posts, but I reckon that Rory the Roman, who waited 2000 years for Amy, aged really well, which explains his ID card photo. On the other hand he could not have been adult Rory whilst growing up With Amy. so the date is still a mystery to me.

Once again thanks. I'm Loving the site

Very good point. Does he even know she exists? I also thought given the fact that Melody was a small child in New York around the same time maybe they would have found each other.

It was a really touching scene but I do wish they would have included Melody in there somewhere since the odd age thing was just covered with Anthony - why not tell him about his granddaughter, their first child? :(

It's good, but that's not in the range of "5 miles away from Cape Canaveral" It would need to be in Titusville or Merritt Island. Nice work anyway :3
