Tom Baker is back!

Posted by: Dr. Geek

Yesterday, Big Finish announced that Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor, will be starting his Big Finish audio adventures next year.

This is fantastic news for fans of Doctor Who. For several years now, Doctors 5-8 have had a chance to expand their adventures, and especially in the case of the 6th Doctor, the Big Finish audios have gone a long way to rehabilitate the past regenerations. While not every adventure is perfect, by far these adventures are just as good if not better than the modern television show. Now finally the 4th Doctor will get this expert treatment.

Big Finish has several Doctor Who ranges. There is the monthly range, The Lost Stories, and The 8th Doctor Adventures. Starting next year, though this will change. The separate 8th Doctor adventures is ending, and the 8th Doctor will join Doctors 5-7 in the monthly range. The 4th Doctor will get his own separate Adventures as well as a box set of the Doctor Who Lost Stories.

At the moment it has been announced that the companions for these adventures will be Romana I and Leela. Here is hoping that if things go well, eventually Romana II and K-9 might show up.

I was so excited when I first read this, I let out a little yelp. I know Liz is pretty busy right now, but I certainly hope she can join in for some adventures, too. I wish we didn’t have to wait until next January to get them, but at least we’ll be getting them. Did you ever hear his BBC Audio adventures? Generally heard they don’t hold a candle to what Big Finish does.

I wouldn’t hold my breathe for any 4 & Romana II adventures, though. Not sure how civil they are, but she is the only companion he has never done a commentary with and as far as I know they’ve never done a con/signing at the same time, so not sure if they’ll be doing a play together. Then again, age does have a way of easing old wounds, just look at how much David Gilmour and Roger Waters have been doing toegther the last year or so.

Never got a chance to hear the BBC audios, are they for sale via the BBC? Wish it was as simple as buying music on Itunes.

I knew things ended badly, but did not know it was that bad. Romanna II does some stuff for Big Finish so maybe they could record their parts individually? Guess I should not look a gift horse in the mouth and just be happy The 4th Doctor is back.
