Question: Who is Your Favorite Doctor?

Posted by: Whochick

9th Doctor in Bad Wolf

I’ve got a quick question for you all at this point. Who is your favorite Doctor?

1. William Hartnell
2. Patrick Troughton
3. Jon Pertwee
4. Tom Baker
5. Peter Davison
6. Colin Baker
7. Sylvester McCoy
8. Paul McGann
9. Christopher Eccleston
10. David Tennant
11. Matt Smith (who has not yet begun…)
12. (other, please explain)

What’s that? Who did *I* choose?

Well, I did a great deal of thinking on the topic, and I’m going to have to go with the Ninth Doctor. He’s barely managed to edge out Ten. Just barely, mind. I think I like his “presence” the most. Honestly, I’d choose both of them if I could, but I made the rules and I must stick by them. I only get to choose one of the Doctor’s selves.

Your turn.

    11. Matt Smith (Too Early to Tell)
    10. Sylvester McCoy (Awful)
    9. William Hartnell (I was too young)
    8. Patrick Troughton (OK)
    7. Colin Baker (Too Arrogant but was good in The Two Doctors with Patrick)
    6. Jon Pertwee (Full of it!)
    5. Paul McGann (Great Actor)
    4. Peter Davison (He did an excellent job following up Tom’s Run)
    3. Christopher Eccleston (Laid the ground work for the new series)
    2. Tom Baker (is the reason I started watching The Doctor)
    1. David Tennant (His performance exceeded all the others! Hopefully, he comes back for the film version)

So…10 then? Was Tom Baker your first Doctor? He was mine.

    Tricky question …..

I really like the 7th Doctor, but his era was full of hits and misses. The Big Finish stores have shown there is a lot more to do with this one than was achieved on TV.

Ultimately #7 is my favorite because of Rememberance of the Daleks. He defeated the lone dalek just by talking to it.

That said, The 6th Doctor is actually my favorite when it comes to Big Finish adventues. Mr. Baker has been allowed to revamp his doctor a bit and the results have been great.

I’ll always have a soft spot for Christopher Eccleston, since he was my first Doctor, but I can’t really judge because I haven’t seen them all yet.

I still have to go with Tom Baker. Yes, he was my first but I just love all his era stood for. It was fun, adventurous, he and his companions traveled all across the Universe, until his final year, his companions were people who wanted to be with him, enjoying their journeys and seeing the stars. He also played the Doctor as an alien, he wasn’t human and therefore didn’t always react or act like we would automatically think a person would. Plus, the scarf rules.

For any who care, here’s my rundown.
    1. Tom Baker
    2. Patrick Troughton (a sense of fun and the wonderful ability to seem like a fool to the enemy which made them all the more shocked when he whupped them good. Plus, love Jamie & Zoe)
    3. Christopher Eccleston (More important to the continuation of the series than he will ever get credit for and ended waaaay too soon)
    4. Jon Pertwee (such a commanding presence and there was never any doubt that he WAS The Doctor)
    5. Peter Davison (had the toughest gig ever following Tom and with a bunch of companions who never seemed to be enjoying themselves but made the part his own and I just liked the guy)
    6. David Tennant (my fave show ever during his tenure and enjoy him heaps…but can be just a bit much at times. And needs to stop apologizing all the time)
    7. Paul McGann (simply did not have enough time with him but loved his lust for life and had my favorite costume of them all)
    8. Sylvester McCoy (suffered form too many poor episodes and writers trying to inject their “soap boxes” into them as well as he was just too all over the place character-wise. Most likely building to something that never happened, but his Doc just never gelled for me. However did have one of the best companions ever in Ace)
    9. William Hartnell (when you get right down to it…he was kind of a dick, but he did start it all)
10 Colin Baker (Ironically, probably my fave actor who has played him now, but at the time both he & his Doc were so arrogant and full of themselves, was hard to get behind him, plus Peri was the ultimate in the companion-not-wanting-to-be-there for me. Like McCoy, would like to have seen the full plan he had in mind for his Doc over a decade which thankfully is coming out in the Big Finish shows)

Not including Matt cause I haven’t seen anything of the man yet, but I do like his outfit as it hearkens back to Pat for me.

Can you tell I needed a break from work today? :-)
